Wood: a noble material associated with knives since the dawn of time.

From the first men, from the first tools, from the first knives, bone and wood are intimately linked with tool sleeves, in general, and knife sleeves in particular.

Eurotechni offers you a selection of platelets and blocks wood for making your knife sleeves.

Our knives are selected in accordance with the protection of the planet and come from sustainably managed forests.

Natural or stabilized wood for knife handles.

As everyone knows, wood remains a living material over time.

Depending on its density, wood may be sensitive to changes in moisture levels and, therefore, may be susceptible to deform and even deteriorate.

Light wood such as poplar, chestnut or birch can be sensitive to these deformations.

For several years now stabilization proven to protect wood and facilitate the maintenance of knife sleeves.

Directed by resin injection at very high pressure inside the pores of our sleeves, stabilization helps protect our sleeves against all external aggressions.

If the translucent resin allows wood for sleeves to retain its natural appearance, the use of tinted resin brings your knives a perfectly original aesthetic.

Some varieties of wood for sleeves do not require stabilization because their density and their resistance to any test naturally protects them.

Most of these are so-called "exotic" wood, such as rosewood iron wood ebony wood, coming from warm geographical areas, sometimes humid and sometimes desert.

Wood stabilized or not: which types of wood to choose?

There is no "best wood.. The first factor of choice remains the aesthetic aspect of the veins of our sleeves.

Variations in patterns are numerous depending on the part used: body, forks (junction of two or more branches), magnifying glass (exgrowth of a part of the tree due to aggression) or ronce (subterranean part composed of large entangled roots).

The patterns and colors will be very different from one side to another.

Depending on the essence chosen, it will be better to choose a wood for sleeves stabilized, possibly coloured to reinforce the aesthetic aspect of the handle and highlight the complexity of the vein motifs.

A stabilized wooden handle will be easier to maintain and will be brighter after polishing.

Wood for sleeves'natural state of course, all species can be used for handle shaping.

We will appreciate the authentic character, the incomparable touch and the very characteristic smell of some sleeves wood. The juniper-cade, for example, has a strong pleasant and spicy smell that repels insects.

Care should be taken, however, and the use of unstabilized natural wood handle knives should avoid water, moisture and products that could stain the wood.

The amazing Morta wood or simply "Morta".

Of all the wood species, Morta wood, or more simply Morta, is halfway between the current oak and fossilized oak at the mineral stage.

Very popular with cutlery for its appearance resembling the ebony wood by its color, the Morta is also appreciated because it is no more, no less, than the'a piece of history.

And what a story!

Morta is extracted exclusively from marshes and peatlands of Wood, in the French Regional Park of the same name, where he stayed for a few... 5,000 years.

We are talking well about the Neolithic era when the first ceramics were born, the first villages and lake towns developed, from a period when primitive man, warrior and nomad, devoted himself to the first cultures and the first breedings.

A pivotal period when everything turned from primitive man to modern man.

Work Morta.

In the case of cutlery, or even in other craft activities, working such an ancient wood may raise some concerns about the ease of machining such an ancient material with its risk of breakage.

All Morta pads and blocks offered by Eurotechni are stabilized by injection of resin. This treatment prevents any deformation of wood for sleeves, protects the wood from external aggressions (wetness, risk of stains, ...) while making it easy to work.

Our Morta pads and blocks are offered in sizes adapted to the realization of original knife handle that will have this little something multi-year in addition.

Whatever wood you choose to shape your knife sleeves, don't hesitate to consult our experts or blog posts for more advice.
