This is a rare opportunity: American damascus steels are not yet widely available in Europe, and the Virus is one of the most distinctive models in the Vegas Forge range. If you're an enthusiast of artisan knifemaking, this name will no doubt be familiar to you: Vegas Forge is a true benchmark in the world of top-of-the-range damascus. Renowned for their complex compositions and spectacular patterns, their steels are used by knifemakers all over the world looking for performance and character. And among the brand's most fascinating patterns, we're very proud to be able to offer you the Virus.
Based in Las Vegas, Vegas Forge masters the art of damascus like few others. Their damascus, whether carbon, stainless steel or even titanium, are distinguished by cutting-edge alloy combinations and ever more audacious patterns. Each bar they produce is the fruit of true craftsmanship, combining innovative metallurgy with the highest aesthetic standards. Vegas Forge is aimed at craftsmen who want to stand out from the crowd, offering them materials of incomparable richness and technicality.
The Virus pattern embodies everything that makes Damascus exceptional: an organic, unpredictable, almost 'living' aesthetic. Inspired by the way an idea spreads, it evolves as the steel is worked, revealing ever more fascinating details with each removal of material. Its powerful contrasts and chaotic nature create a hypnotic, almost moving visual. A damask as bold as it is sophisticated, that will enhance even the most ambitious projects.
The Virus is one of the few Vegas Forge designs based on three high-quality stainless steels:
AEB-L, for precise cutting and extremely fine grain ;
440C, The chromium content of 16 to 18% makes it exceptionally resistant to corrosion;
302, The high nickel content (6 to 9.5%) gives it great ductility after hardening, and a marked visual contrast.
The composition of the Virus pattern is precisely balanced: 41% AEB-L, 47% 440C and up to 13% 302. The result is a stainless steel damascus that is robust, high in contrast and particularly pleasing to the eye.
Virus bars are supplied annealed, specially prepared for stock removal. The format offered is perfectly suited to the manufacture of small fixed blades or folding knives, while limiting losses during processing.
This complex pattern requires special attention during heat treatment. To guide you, we've provided a detailed technical sheet, which you can download free of charge, with all the steps to follow (temperatures, times, cycles). You'll also find a full tutorial on how to bring out the full beauty of the Virus pattern in the best possible conditions.
